Jason Markotter · Leadership story
Jason and a team turning ideas into prototypes together

A career spent making the next useful thing visible.

The optimistic systems builder

I build enough of the future for people to see it, question it and make it better—then create the conditions for a team to carry it forward.

The through-line

Make it real. Make it human.

My career has moved from bootstrapped products to financial systems, global platforms, consumer products and AI. The surface area changed. The instinct did not.

When the route is unclear, I make a small, useful version of the idea. It gives engineers something concrete to improve and gives everyone else a way into the conversation. That is how strategy becomes shared work.

I believe serious work can still have lightness. Bravery grows faster in teams where people feel trusted, heard and able to enjoy the problem together.

The current chapter

AI as a way to learn, not a slogan.

Reporting to the founder, I connect engineering with product strategy and delivery—turning company priorities and operational insight into clear bets, working prototypes and a more product-oriented way of operating.

01

Connect engineering, product and delivery around shared outcomes—clarifying the problem, exposing trade-offs and making ownership visible from discovery through execution.

02

Own engineering strategy, organisational clarity, technical judgement, delivery cadence, coaching and cross-functional alignment.

03

Drive AI automation as a practical operating capability, looking for repeated work that can be made faster, clearer and more observable.

04

Lead toward a demo and prototype environment where ideas can become visible, testable product bets before the organisation makes larger commitments.

Five chapters, one instinct

Now

Assaia

Make the future visible

AI automation, prototypes and a product-oriented operating model turn abstract ambition into something a team can inspect, challenge and improve.

In ambiguity, a small working proof creates more alignment than another presentation.

2022–25

OneFootball

Connect strategy to teams at scale

Led five squads across matches, ingestion, personalisation, live video, video and OTT for a product serving 14 million monthly users.

Clarity and resilience matter most when the organisation itself keeps changing.

2016–21

OLX Group

Build platforms that travel

Built and relocated a cross-market advertising capability, creating reusable systems that reduced repeated integration work and contributed to commercial growth.

A platform earns its name when another team can create value without needing its authors.

2011–16

PayAccSys / Iperion

Grow the system and the people

Built the initial engineering team and modernised the foundations of a payments business operating at meaningful financial scale.

Technical leadership is stewardship: reduce today’s risk while increasing tomorrow’s options.

2009–11

Kariba Technology

Learn by making

Bootstrapped products across engineering, marketing, operations and delivery, close enough to customers to feel every assumption.

Momentum comes from putting something useful in front of people and staying curious about what happens next.

How I show up

Try

Turn a belief into the smallest useful experiment.

Learn

Seek evidence and listen without defending the first idea.

Adjust

Change course quickly while protecting the outcome.

Include

Invite the people closest to the problem into the work.

Enjoy

Use warmth and play to make brave work feel possible.
